Jami-lyn Fehr Troop of "The Buy List" on Jewelry, Curation, and Everyday Style
Meet Jami-lyn Fehr Troop — the voice behind "The Buy List" on Substack, director of content and creative at Cake Members, and, before all that, the founder of her own luxury clothing boutique, MODISTE. She recently added yellow diamond side stones to her engagement ring with us, and we sat down to talk about that, her boutique days, and her love of watches and sketching.

For anyone meeting you for the first time — tell us about you, what you do day to day, and where you're based.
Hi, hi! I'm a FL-based girl who loves a good latte, is passionate about well-designed clothes (and therefore perpetually window shopping), newly obsessed with all things horology (thanks to my husband), and an avid reader (currently on book 24 of the year!).
Day to day, I work in marketing for a fashion-tech company where I handle all things social media, e-commerce merchandising, and editorial styling.
Let's talk about the custom ring we just created for you! What made you want to add yellow diamonds to your engagement ring?
Honestly, I fell in love with 3-stone settings back when Jonathan and I were perusing engagement rings before we got engaged. I tried a few on and thought they were beautiful. At the same time, though, I also fell in love with the Asscher-cut diamond, and that is a much more niche stone that we truly felt we could only rely on CTWF for. Before we got engaged, we decided a solitaire would be a perfect place to start, but soon after our wedding, we thought adding yellow diamonds to it would really make the Asscher pop, and trillions were the perfect shape to add as side stones. Leave it to Ben & Emily to literally find the perfect stones and create a ring that I swear I'll never reset.

Before you were a content creator, you ran your own luxury clothing boutique for years. Take us back to that chapter — what did running it teach you about taste and curation that still sneaks into how you dress and accessorize today?
Funny enough, I started out as a content creator, and I think that following and the internet friends I had helped me see early success in my retail business! I learned so much from those 5 years I had MODISTE, far beyond taste & curation, but those are definitely things I refined throughout those years. Something I loved about that time was the discovery element. I loved finding brands that weren't popular yet and styling them alongside brands my customers already knew, so they could get that discovery experience too. It taught me to love fashion for what it was, beyond the label sewn into the garment.
We know you love watches and clearly have an eye for them — what's your favorite watch in your collection, and why that one?
Oh my gosh. I'm too sentimental for this. My husband gave me a gorgeous Omega Seamaster the night we got engaged (yes, he gave me a ring and a watch. I was floored too), but he also gave me a Bvlgari Serpenti the morning of our wedding with our wedding date engraved on it. How can I not choose one of those?

Your outfit sketches are such a signature part of your content — what draws you to sketching over just posting photos, and does jewelry make it into them?
I learned to illustrate fashion in undergrad at Belmont, and it's stuck with me ever since. I always love trying to be creative with my content, especially in the era of AI, so I think it's something fun to integrate every now and then. I haven't illustrated jewelry in one yet, but I'm about to drop a Substack about watches where a few timepiece sketches make an appearance, so stay tuned for that!

What's currently on your Consider wishlist?
You know I love my Pear Douze Diamond Bracelet, but I think I need to add another necklace to my collection, and I love this one. Ruby is my birthstone, and I love the paper clip chain.
