I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5
I think it's safe to say that this is a verse worth committing to memory ASAP. So we're going to break it up for you for the next few weeks. The entire verse is sort of a recap of the preceding verses (John 15:1-4), which says that Jesus is the true vine and His Father is the vinedresser who prunes the branches as He sees fit. Jesus makes a point to reiterate the first four verses in just one, namely verse 5, giving us a fairly good indicator that we should pay attention to it.
I am the vine; you are the branches.
This segment of the verse alone is jam-packed with goodness. It reveals our intimate communion with and unprovoked support from Jesus, and it speaks to the glory that He alone deserves - for by it's very nature a branch cannot grow of its own accord.
Let these words carry you through this week. Let them roll over in your mind every time you check your phone or crack open your laptop and subsequently sneak a peek at this wallpaper. Pray that the vinedresser himself would reveal the deep truths of these words. Steep in them, for your good and His glory.
AND YOU WILL KNOW THE TRUTH, AND THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE. JOHN 8:32
